{"id":10257,"date":"2022-07-18T02:44:00","date_gmt":"2022-07-18T02:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.prnasia.com\/story\/archive\/3819072_AE19072_0"},"modified":"2022-07-18T02:44:00","modified_gmt":"2022-07-18T02:44:00","slug":"cgtn-xinjiang-a-hub-in-belt-and-road-cooperation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/transmediavictoria.net.au\/?p=10257","title":{"rendered":"CGTN: Xinjiang, a hub in Belt and Road cooperation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en.prnasia.com\/prnasia.com-PC\/images\/logo-en-blue-in.png\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">BEIJING<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-chron\">July 18, 2022<\/span> \/PRNewswire\/ &#8212; The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is <span class=\"xn-location\">China&#8217;s<\/span> bridge to <span class=\"xn-location\">Central Asia<\/span>, the <span class=\"xn-location\">Middle East<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span>, owing to its strategic location as the country&#8217;s westernmost frontier.<\/p>\n<div class=\"PRN_ImbeddedAssetReference\" id=\"DivAssetPlaceHolder7674\" align=\"center\" readability=\"7\">\n<p title=\"CGTN: Xinjiang, a hub in Belt and Road cooperation\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/04glRSnTovc\" frameborder=\"0\">&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;nbsp;<\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It plays a vital role in the <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span>-proposed&nbsp;Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a framework of trade and infrastructure networks connecting <span class=\"xn-location\">Asia<\/span> with <span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Africa<\/span> along and beyond the ancient Silk Road routes.<\/p>\n<p>During his visit to Xinjiang from Tuesday to Friday, Chinese President Xi Jinping called the multi-ethnic region &#8220;a hub&#8221; in Belt and Road cooperation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Xinjiang has morphed from a relatively enclosed hinterland into the forefront of opening-up, the president told staff at Urumqi International Land Port Area on Tuesday afternoon, as the country is promoting the expansion of opening up, the development of the western regions, and the joint efforts in building the Belt and Road.<\/p>\n<p>President Xi stressed advancing the building of the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt &#8211; the &#8220;belt&#8221; component of the BRI &#8211; and incorporating Xinjiang&#8217;s regional opening-up strategy into the country&#8217;s overall plan of westward development.<\/p>\n<p><b>The gateways<\/b><\/p>\n<p>At the international land port area, Xi checked the operations of China-Europe Railway Express (Urumqi), the Alashankou port and the&nbsp;Horgos Port, which are all important gateways for cross-border trade.<\/p>\n<p>Horgos, literally translates to &#8220;a place where caravans pass,&#8221; used to be a trading post along the northern route of the ancient Silk Road.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, the port launched the <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span> freight train service and has since witnessed a steady rise in the number of trains passing through it. Despite of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span> freight trains entering and leaving via Horgos Port exceeded 4,720 in 2020, a 43 percent increase compared with the total in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>According to local customs officials, the services of the <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span> freight train have been favored by an increasing number of companies during the pandemic thanks to their low prices, large transportation capacity, great stability and connectivity.<\/p>\n<p>The Alashankou Port, also known as Alataw Pass, is <span class=\"xn-location\">China&#8217;s<\/span> closest railway port to <span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span>. In <span class=\"xn-chron\">January 2020<\/span>, cross border e-commerce was launched in the inland port and commodities like toys, digital products and clothing manufactured in the country have been shipped to <span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span> since.<\/p>\n<p>Data from the customs of the inland port shows that more than 57 million cross-border e-commerce packages worth over <span class=\"xn-money\">1 billion yuan<\/span> (about <span class=\"xn-money\">160 million U.S. dollars<\/span>) have been exported via the port since <span class=\"xn-chron\">January 2020<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>During his inspection, Xi also highlighted the importance of innovating the system for an open economy, the building of large corridors, better utilizing both domestic and international markets and resources, and actively serving and integrating into the new pattern of development.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span> put forth the West Development Strategy in 1999, and since then, the country&#8217;s western regions have achieved remarkable progress.
