This explains why astronauts often smell grilled meats after a spacewalk.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>The effects of microgravity in space mean that astronauts&#8217; sense of taste is dulled, which is why they often crave spicy flavour-packed foods \u2013 and may be the reason why <span class=\"xn-person\">Pedro Duque<\/span> took a chorizo with him to space.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Commenting on this discovery, Dr <span class=\"xn-person\">Chris Welch<\/span> said:<\/b>&nbsp;<i>&#8220;Spicy flavours like&nbsp;<\/i><i>chorizo have long been a favourite space food among hungry astronauts, which is why it has enjoyed such a rich space heritage.
