SHANGHAI<\/span>, Sept. 17, 2022<\/span> \/PRNewswire\/ — The China International Import Expo (CIIE), the world’s first national-level import-themed trade fair, has continued to provide a platform for sharing market opportunities in China<\/span> with BRI nations.<\/p>\n

The CIIE, which was launched in 2018, comprises a business exhibition, a country exhibition and the Hongqiao International Economic Forum.<\/p>\n

The expo has been growing in scale and influence \u2013 the area of its business exhibition increased from 270,000 square meters in 2018 to 366,000 square meters in 2021, while the first three editions helped channel about $30.5 billion<\/span> of foreign investment into 622 projects.<\/p>\n

The fifth edition of the CIIE will be held in Shanghai<\/span> from Nov 5 to10<\/span> this year as scheduled. As usual, a slew of companies will be attending the expo for the first time – they include global metals and mining giant Rio Tinto Group and Japanese multinational semiconductor company Renesas Electronics Corp.<\/p>\n

The CIIE has become the preferred place for companies to announce new creations. During the past four editions, exhibitors have debuted more than 1,500 new products, technologies and services.<\/p>\n

The CIIE has further opened up the huge Chinese market and made a profound difference in the world, especially in least developed countries, those in Central and Eastern Europe<\/span> and those involved in the BRI.<\/p>\n

Mamani, for example, an alpaca craftsman from Peru<\/span>, used to make a living by selling alpaca artworks at his roadside stall, earning less than $20<\/span> a day. Because of the CIIE, orders from China<\/span> now generate a monthly income of $50,000<\/span> for him, and stable jobs for another 200 or more craftsmen just like him. “Without the orders from China<\/span>, many craftsmen like me will be unemployed,” he said.<\/p>\n

The expo’s strong spillover effects have drawn more attention.<\/p>\n

In the fourth CIIE, many products from Trinidad and Tobago<\/span> have attracted Chinese consumers’ attention. “We are expecting to attend the fifth CIIE this year to exhibit our special goods,” said Analisa Low<\/span>, who assumed her post as the ambassador of Trinidad and Tobago<\/span> to China<\/span>, in a recent interview.<\/p>\n

In terms of the Business Exhibition, the fifth CIIE will again feature six exhibition areas \u2014 Food and Agricultural Products, Intelligent Industry and Information Technology, Medical Equipment and Healthcare Products, Consumer Goods, Trade in Services, and Automobiles.<\/p>\n

In addition, a series of sideline events such as promotional activities in foreign countries, signing ceremonies and forums, have made the CIIE more than just a six-day expo, but also a means to turn exhibitors into investors.<\/p>\n
