Prof. Ian Hector Frazer<\/span> is a Professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Queensland<\/span>, the founding CEO and Director of Research of the Translational Research Institute, Chair of the Translational Research Institute (TRI) Foundation Board, and Advisor on Medical Research, University of Queensland<\/span>, Brisbane Australia<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Late Dr. Jian Zhou<\/span> was the Lion Principal Research Fellow, Chair HPV Structure Protein Laboratory at the Centre for Immunology and Cancer Research of the University of Queensland<\/span> Faculty of Medicine, Brisbane, Australia<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Both researchers are co-developers of the HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) vaccine. Their work has led to the development of a vaccine that prevents infection with HPV strains responsible for the majority of cases of cervical cancer. In August 2006<\/span>, Professor Ian Frazer<\/span> administered the first dose of the vaccine.<\/p>\n

Prof. Ian Frazer<\/span> says that we could not have achieved this historic breakthrough without the contribution of Dr. Jian Zhou<\/span>, who sadly passed away in 1999.<\/p>\n
