{"id":16958,"date":"2023-03-17T11:25:00","date_gmt":"2023-03-17T11:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.prnasia.com\/story\/archive\/4045291_CN45291_0"},"modified":"2023-03-17T11:25:00","modified_gmt":"2023-03-17T11:25:00","slug":"samsung-biologics-announces-construction-of-plant-5-to-commence-bio-campus-ii-capacity-expansion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/transmediavictoria.net.au\/?p=16958","title":{"rendered":"Samsung Biologics announces construction of Plant 5 to commence Bio Campus II capacity expansion"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>The company plans to begin construction in the first half of 2023 and commence operations in 2025<\/li>\n<li>As part of Samsung Biologics&#8217; second <span class=\"xn-person\">Bio Campus<\/span>, Plant 5 will hold a manufacturing capacity of 180,000 liters, expanding the company&#8217;s total site capacity to 784,000 liters upon its completion<\/li>\n<li>Samsung Biologics will invest over <span class=\"xn-money\">KRW 1.9 trillion<\/span> in the facility, fulfilling its strategic commitment to continuous capacity expansion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"legendSpanClass\">INCHEON,&nbsp;South Korea<\/span>, <span class=\"legendSpanClass\"><span class=\"xn-chron\">March 17, 2023<\/span><\/span> \/PRNewswire\/ &#8212; Samsung Biologics (KRX: 207940.KS), a leading contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO), announced today that the company will commence the construction of a fifth plant as part of its strategic expansion in response to increased market demand.<\/p>\n<p>The company will invest over <span class=\"xn-money\">KRW 1.9 trillion<\/span> in the new facility and break ground in the first half of this year with the aim to commence operations in 2025.&nbsp;Located near its current Songdo site, Plant 5 will be the first facility of the company&#8217;s second <span class=\"xn-person\">Bio Campus<\/span>, encompassing an area of <span class=\"xn-money\">96,000m<\/span><sup>2 <\/sup>and holding a capacity of 180,000&nbsp;liters. Upon Plant 5&#8217;s full completion, Samsung Biologics will maintain its global biomanufacturing capacity leadership with a total of 784,000&nbsp;liters.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Given the continuing increase in the demand for outsourced manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals, we are proactively making this investment in alignment with our growth strategy to further strengthen our standing as a leading CDMO,&#8221; said <span class=\"xn-person\">John Rim<\/span>, President and CEO of Samsung Biologics. &#8220;The new facility will enable us to provide our customers with even greater innovation and services that will increase speed to market and flexibility.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The plant is expected to further maximize operational efficiency, allowing the company to leverage existing capabilities, expertise and technologies acquired through its experience with Plants 1 through 4, while introducing advanced digitalization and sustainability features.<\/p>\n<p>Samsung Biologics purchased <span class=\"xn-money\">360,000m<\/span><sup>2 <\/sup>of land in <span class=\"xn-chron\">July 2022<\/span> for its second <span class=\"xn-person\">Bio Campus<\/span>, which will house additional large-scale plants and an open innovation center. The company will be investing <span class=\"xn-money\">KRW 7.5 trillion<\/span> in its second <span class=\"xn-person\">Bio Campus<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The company&#8217;s existing Plants 1 through 3 are under near-full utilization and its Plant 4, which started partial operations in October last year, is expected to commence full operations by midyear.<\/p>\n<p>In line with the company&#8217;s expansion plans, Samsung Biologics will also enhance its presence in the U.S. with the opening of a regional office in <span class=\"xn-location\">New Jersey<\/span> next week.
