Guided by the goal of reducing global inequity, the call for proposals specifically targeted researchers and innovators in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Responsible and safe use of AI-driven LLM\u202ftechnology has the potential to help solve some of the world&#8217;s toughest health and development challenges. However, for these models to be useful in LMICs, researchers in LMICs need to participate in the design, application, and testing of this technology as it rapidly evolves.\u202fA robust evidence base will fill gaps in access and our knowledge about the application of such tools to address problems across LMICs in an equitable way. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s announcement is part of the foundation&#8217;s Grand Challenges program, a family of initiatives fostering innovation to solve pressing global health and development problems. Each recipient will receive up to <span class=\"xn-money\">US$100,000<\/span> to advance its research project, for a total of <span class=\"xn-money\">US$5 million<\/span> in grants. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Selected recipients are from <span class=\"xn-location\">Bangladesh<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Brazil<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Ghana<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">India<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Kenya<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Lebanon<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Malawi<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Mali<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Nepal<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Nigeria<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Pakistan<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Rwanda<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Senegal<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">South Africa<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Tanzania<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Uganda<\/span>, and <span class=\"xn-location\">Vietnam<\/span>. The findings of these projects will be shared at the Grand Challenges Annual Meeting in <span class=\"xn-location\">Dakar, Senegal<\/span>, this October.
