As part of its review, it is expected to begin the public commentary stage by the end of <span class=\"xn-chron\">September 2023<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Food Frontier&#8217;s Executive Director, Dr. <span class=\"xn-person\">Simon Eassom<\/span>, says he hopes the public will get behind the application.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To imagine that an Australian food tech company could be amongst the first to bring this protein option to our plates is very exciting.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Alternative proteins can be part of the solution to <span class=\"xn-location\">Australia&#8217;s<\/span> declining export complexity, which we saw through <span class=\"xn-person\">Harvard Kennedy School&#8217;s<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amgc.org.au\/media-releases\/harvards-economic-complexity-ranking-shows-australias-luck-is-running-out\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">recent announcement<\/a>&nbsp;that <span class=\"xn-location\">Australia&#8217;s<\/span> worldwide position had deteriorated significantly to 93<sup>rd<\/sup> in the world, due to a heavy reliance on exporting raw goods.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span> is making significant inroads investing in and scaling up cultivated meat production, as are a host of other countries. Vow is demonstrating food systems innovation and technical leadership and, if approval is granted, will propel <span class=\"xn-location\">Australia<\/span> onto the international stage as a trailblazer in the race to develop complementary solutions to the world&#8217;s growing protein needs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Globally, <span class=\"xn-location\">Singapore<\/span> was the first to approve cultivated meat in 2020, and the US became second in <span class=\"xn-chron\">June 2023<\/span>. The company behind GOOD Meat&#8217;s inaugural US approval will also speak at AltProteins 23.<\/p>\n<p><b>ANZ poised to lead in alternative proteins<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Another major topic at AltProteins 23 is the immense potential for <span class=\"xn-location\">Australia<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">New Zealand<\/span> to take a leading position in sustainable food production worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>As a starting point, <span class=\"xn-location\">Australia<\/span> has 25 plant-based meat companies and 14 start-ups in the broader cellular agriculture space, including two companies in ANZ working specifically on cultivated meat.<\/p>\n<p>The region&#8217;s alternative proteins industry will require more resources and infrastructure to lead globally while driving manufacturing capacity at home.
