{"id":25012,"date":"2024-02-08T19:55:00","date_gmt":"2024-02-08T19:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.prnasia.com\/story\/archive\/4323065_AE23065_0"},"modified":"2024-02-08T19:55:00","modified_gmt":"2024-02-08T19:55:00","slug":"agility-logistics-execs-wary-of-2024-recession-and-overreliance-on-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/transmediavictoria.net.au\/?p=25012","title":{"rendered":"Agility: Logistics Execs Wary of 2024 Recession and Overreliance on China"},"content":{"rendered":"<br \/>\n<table name=\"logo_release\" border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"10\" cellpadding=\"5\" align=\"right\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mma.prnasia.com\/media2\/1739997\/Agility_Logo.jpg?p=medium600\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" title=\"logo\" hspace=\"0\" vspace=\"0\" width=\"118\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><i>Majority plan <span class=\"xn-location\">Africa<\/span> expansion despite guarded outlook on emerging markets <\/i><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">DUBAI<\/span>, UAE, <span class=\"xn-chron\">Feb. 6, 2024<\/span> \/PRNewswire\/ &#8212; Global logistics executives, still worried about recession, say they are battling higher costs, reducing dependence on sourcing from <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span>, and planning to boost investment in <span class=\"xn-location\">Africa<\/span> despite seeing emerging markets investment overall as somewhat riskier.<\/p>\n<p>Half of the 830 industry professionals surveyed for the <a href=\"https:\/\/emli.agility.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">2024 Agility Emerging Markets Logistics Index<\/a> expect a global recession in the coming year \u2013 down from nearly 70% a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>More than 63% of respondents say their companies continue overhauling supply chains by spreading production to multiple locations or relocating it to home markets and nearby countries. <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span>, the world&#8217;s leading producer, stands to be most affected: 37.4% of industry professionals say they plan to move production\/sourcing out of <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span> or reduce investment there.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Shippers and carriers are struggling to minimize supply chain risk and find new growth opportunities. Inflation and recession risks have eased, but the industry is still living with the aftershocks of the COVID pandemic. At the same time, businesses are worried about geopolitics &#8212; troubled trade relations between <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span> and the U.S. and <span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span>, and the thicket of sanctions against a growing number of countries,&quot; says Agility Vice Chairman <span class=\"xn-person\">Tarek Sultan<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The survey and Index are Agility&#8217;s 15<sup>th<\/sup> annual snapshot of industry sentiment and ranking of the world&#8217;s 50 leading emerging markets. The Index ranks countries for overall competitiveness based on their logistics strengths, business climates and digital readiness &#8212; factors that make them attractive to logistics providers, freight forwarders, air and ocean carriers, distributors and investors.<\/p>\n<p>Shipping and logistics costs that soared during the COVID pandemic and its aftermath are still climbing but at a slower rate, the survey found. One way shippers expect to cope is by increasing use of digital freight forwarding from 37.8% today to 52% in five years.<\/p>\n<p>Meantime, the industry is gearing up for a surge in <span class=\"xn-location\">Africa<\/span> investment. Nearly 62% of professionals say their companies are planning additional or first-time investments in <span class=\"xn-location\">Africa<\/span> vs. only about 7% exiting or scaling back there.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">India<\/span>, the world&#8217;s two largest countries, held their spots at No. 1 and 2 in the overall rankings. UAE, <span class=\"xn-location\">Malaysia<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Indonesia<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Saudi Arabia<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Qatar<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Vietnam<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexico<\/span>, and Thailand&nbsp;rounded out the top 10. No. 24 South Africa and 25 Kenya were highest among countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Three of the four countries offering the best emerging markets business conditions are situated in the Arabian Gulf: UAE (1), <span class=\"xn-location\">Saudi Arabia<\/span> (3) and <span class=\"xn-location\">Qatar<\/span> (4). <span class=\"xn-location\">Malaysia<\/span> (2) and <span class=\"xn-location\">Jordan<\/span> (5) both moved up in the business fundamentals rankings.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">India<\/span> were tops for domestic and international logistics. In digital readiness, <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span> jumped three spots to No. 1, followed by UAE, <span class=\"xn-location\">Malaysia<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Qatar<\/span>. <span class=\"xn-location\">India<\/span> fell from the top spot a year ago to No. 5 this year.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of the top 10, many of the biggest swings in year-to-year rankings involved countries experiencing conflict, facing international economic sanctions, or suffering from chronic economic instability. Among them: <span class=\"xn-location\">Ukraine<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Russia<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Iran<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Ethiopia<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Argentina<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Lebanon<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Tunisia<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><b>2024 Index Highlights<\/b><\/p>\n<p>SURVEY<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><b>Supply chain restructuring<\/b>&nbsp;\u2013 <span class=\"xn-location\">India<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">North America<\/span> rank ahead of <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span> as destinations executives expect to move production to in 2024 and onwards.<\/li>\n<li><b>China&nbsp;<\/b>\u2013 40% expect their businesses to be less reliant on <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span> in five years.
