The new infrastructure coupled with technical support will super charge Aotearoa\u2019s fast-growing aerospace sector and help meet international demand.<\/span> <\/center> <script type=\"text\/javascript\">jwplayer('myplayer1').setup({file: 'https:\/\/mma.prnasia.com\/media2\/2337829\/T_whaki_Runway_Video.mp4', image: 'https:\/\/mma.prnasia.com\/media2\/2337829\/T_whaki_Runway_Video.mp4?p=medium', autostart:'false', stretching : 'uniform', width: '512', height: '288'});<\/script> <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The new infrastructure coupled with technical support will super charge Aotearoa&#8217;s fast-growing aerospace sector and help meet international demand.<\/p>\n<p>Domestic and international companies are already testing and trialling leading-edge technologies at Kaitorete, a short 50-minute drive from \u014ctautahi Christchurch CBD and now more crafts and companies can take flight.<\/p>\n<p>US-based <a href=\"https:\/\/wisk.aero\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Wisk Aero<\/a>&nbsp;recently conducted its world-first airspace integration test flights for an uncrewed aircraft from Kaitorete and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawnaerospace.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dawn Aerospace<\/a>&nbsp;and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.keaaerospace.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kea Aerospace<\/a>&nbsp;will now be able to conduct horizontal space launches and stratospheric flights from the site.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The new 1-kilometre runway and planned hangar facilities were funded by a <span class=\"xn-money\">$5.4 million<\/span> grant from the New Zealand Government&#8217;s Regional Strategic Partnership Fund, administered by K\u0101noa. This joins a sealed taxiway and fuel pad, grass runway, vertiport, office facilities and data connections.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>T\u0101whaki Board Member David Perenara-O&#8217;Connell said mana whenua (indigenous people) of Kaitorete were proud to be at the forefront of supporting the country&#8217;s aerospace sector and acknowledged their partnership with the New Zealand Government in the T\u0101whaki Joint Venture.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;To fully enable the sector, supply chains and realise the economic benefits for all New Zealanders, takes a collaborative approach. Its proximity to world-class universities, international air and seaports and advanced manufacturing capabilities in nearby \u014ctautahi <span class=\"xn-location\">Christchurch<\/span> is globally unique.<\/p>\n<p>T\u0101whaki Chief Executive <span class=\"xn-person\">Linda Falwasser<\/span> said the Joint Venture was taking a staged approach to its developments, with the potential to support vertical space launch in future.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We have one of the world&#8217;s best locations for aerospace and space launch and we&#8217;re prioritising critical infrastructure alongside rejuvenation of this special whenua (land).
