Already, the Group is witnessing hotel bookings peak in arrivals on <span class=\"xn-chron\">October 1<\/span><sup>st<\/sup> \u2013 the day the holiday commences &#8211; with the average length of stays over seven days, as workers can enjoy a 10-day break by taking just two days off. Travellers increasingly seek high-quality, mid-tier accommodation types. However, in <span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span>, year-on-year growth of 5-star hotel bookings was almost three times higher than in <span class=\"xn-location\">Asia-Pacific<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Long-Haul Destinations on the Rise, Visa Applications Surge<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A significant shift towards long-haul destinations can be seen this year, with <span class=\"xn-location\">Australia<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">the United States<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">New Zealand<\/span>, the <span class=\"xn-location\">United Kingdom<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">France<\/span>, and <span class=\"xn-location\">Spain<\/span> topping the list of most sought-after long-haul destinations by Chinese travellers. Long-haul flights have seen an increase compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>European destinations like the <span class=\"xn-location\">United Kingdom<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Spain<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Germany<\/span>, and <span class=\"xn-location\">Italy<\/span> are seeing significantly longer stays, surpassing 10 to 14 days.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, in <span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span>, more than 30% choose multi-destination itineraries, reflecting a growing trend to maximise long-haul travel. Meanwhile, in <span class=\"xn-location\">Asia Pacific<\/span>, nearly 80% of Chinese travellers opt for single-destination trips.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, travellers plan further in advance, with visa applications submitted an average of 68 days before the holiday\u201429 days earlier than last year. The top countries for National Day visa applications include <span class=\"xn-location\">Japan<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">South Korea<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Australia<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">the United States<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Vietnam<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">New Zealand<\/span>, the <span class=\"xn-location\">United Kingdom<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">France<\/span>, and <span class=\"xn-location\">Spain<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Lesser Known Destinations Spark Travel Flows in <span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Asia<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p>With overtourism as one of the challenges for key destinations around the world, Chinese travellers have increasingly been drawn to quieter, off-the-beaten-path locations this Golden Week. This is so particularly in the <span class=\"xn-location\">Asia-Pacific<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span> regions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Japanese cities off the main circuit of <span class=\"xn-location\">Tokyo<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"xn-location\">Osaka<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"xn-location\">Kyoto<\/span>, like <span class=\"xn-location\">Yokohama<\/span>, Takayama and Ito, showed three-digit booking growth, underscoring this trend. Additionally, nature and wellness tourism saw a rise, with Phu Quoc Islands in <span class=\"xn-location\">Vietnam<\/span> and the hot spring town of Higashiizu in <span class=\"xn-location\">Japan<\/span> becoming popular for their scenic landscapes and wellness experiences.<\/p>\n<p>European destinations such as Granada and <span class=\"xn-location\">Seville<\/span> also captured significant attention, with a 260% and 144% rise in bookings, respectively, reflecting a desire for greater cultural and historical immersion beyond key capitals.<\/p>\n<p><b>Concerts and Live Entertainment Fuel Tourism Charge<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Live entertainment is playing a pivotal role in travel trends this season, with key concerts and events in the <span class=\"xn-location\">Asia-Pacific<\/span> region happening during the October holiday. Moreover, over 75% of tourists visiting the APAC region are millennials, who have shown strong interest in events and concerts.<\/p>\n<p>Around the holiday period, popular K-pop artists such as Taemin and Taeyang will captivate audiences in <span class=\"xn-location\">Hong Kong<\/span>, alongside international acts such as <a href=\"https:\/\/hk.trip.com\/travel-guide\/trip-events\/148891856?curr=HKD&amp;locale=zh-HK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">John Legend<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/m.ctrip.com\/webapp\/you\/xgspoi\/activityPoi\/38\/148894861.html?poiId=148894861&amp;seo=0&amp;ishidenavbar=yes&amp;popup=close&amp;autoawaken=close&amp;scene=search&amp;source=global_search&amp;ctm_ref=vdc_ctm_5840\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ne-Yo<\/a>. In <span class=\"xn-location\">Bangkok<\/span>, girl group Aespa is a draw, while in <span class=\"xn-location\">South Korea<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Busan&#8217;s<\/span> <i><a href=\"https:\/\/hk.trip.com\/travel-guide\/trip-events\/148899534?curr=HKD&amp;locale=zh-HK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Festival Shiwol<\/a><\/i> blends entertainment, culture, and business in a massive event expected to draw 450,000 visitors.<\/p>\n<p>In <span class=\"xn-location\">Singapore<\/span>, hotels within 3km of concert venues have experienced a 214% increase in unique views compared to those farther away, as tourists seek proximity to venues such as Singapore Indoor Stadium, Gateway Theatre, and Capitol Theatre, where major concerts are scheduled.<\/p>\n<p><b>Cross-border Surge in Inbound Tourism<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The growth rate of inbound tourism has also been encouraging, with an increase in bookings. 9 out of 10 of the top outbound destinations were also the top inbound source markets, highlighting the two-way nature between outbound and inbound tourism for <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>This year, <span class=\"xn-location\">Thailand<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Singapore<\/span>, both offering mutual visa exemptions with <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span>, ranked third and fifth respectively in inbound tourism.<\/p>\n<p>Overlapping in part with Golden Week, Trip.com has also launched two tour routes for its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trip.com\/hot\/shanghaiexpress-halfdaylayovertour\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Shanghai Express<\/a> free layover tours initiative, enriching the travel experience for international passengers with transits of over 8 hours in <span class=\"xn-location\">Shanghai<\/span>.
