In line with the progressive resumption of in-person engagements, ATF adopted a hybrid format this year, with its in-person Opening Day held at the Marina Bay Sands, <span class=\"xn-location\">Singapore<\/span>, taking place alongside its digital platform \u2014 ATF Online+. <\/p>\n<p>The event was officially opened by <span class=\"xn-location\">Singapore&#8217;s<\/span> Minister for Communications and Information, Mrs <span class=\"xn-person\">Josephine Teo<\/span>, who announced that two <span class=\"xn-location\">Singapore<\/span> media companies, Beach House Pictures, and Clover Films, will work with Curiosity Stream and iQIYI to create content for a global audience. <span class=\"xn-location\">Singapore<\/span> will also continue to provide opportunities for upskilling the local industry, with Netflix conducting workshops for up to 20 local screenwriters to hone their craft in&nbsp;series writing next year.<\/p>\n<p>ATF 2021 saw 2506 unique attendees from 61 countries and regions participating, including 16 official pavilions and 139 speakers, judges, and speed daters. The first three days saw more than 11,738 meetings arranged, underpinning ATF&#8217;s importance as a key industry platform to facilitate business dealings. <\/p>\n<p>An extensive list of 3,983 programmes is listed on the ATF Online+ platform, which continues to be available on-demand and will be updated with fresh content up to <span class=\"xn-chron\">June 2022<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Partnerships and Deals Announced at ATF2021<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Further reinforcing ATF&#8217;s standing as a premier entertainment content platform to do business in <span class=\"xn-location\">Asia<\/span>, the event saw a significant number of announcements made by both buyers and sellers across the region: <\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Chinese online video platform <b>iQIYI<\/b> announced its plans to launch six more Southeast Asian originals in 2022, consisting of five new Malaysian and a first Thai original production. The company also announced a partnership with Alipay+ in a bid to increase accessibility of their platform and content to audiences across the region. <\/li>\n<li><span class=\"xn-location\">Singapore<\/span>-based video entertainment platform <b>Viddsee<\/b> announced a partnership with MNC Pictures, one of the largest production houses in <span class=\"xn-location\">Indonesia<\/span>, to launch an accelerator programme to develop outstanding Intellectual Property (IP) for filmmakers in the Viddsee network. <\/li>\n<li>British free-to-air TV network, <b>ITV Studios<\/b>, saw a raft of deals made in <span class=\"xn-location\">Asia Pacific<\/span> for scripted and non-scripted content across its catalogue, including pre-sales for brand-new shows <i>Anne<\/i>, <i>The Ipcress File<\/i>, <i>Holding<\/i>, <i>Redemption<\/i>, <i>Our House<\/i> and series two of <i>Noughts + Crosses<\/i>. Netflix has also purchased its award-wining format, <i>Love Island <span class=\"xn-location\">USA<\/span> S3,<\/i> to be streamed in select territories in <span class=\"xn-location\">Southeast Asia<\/span>. <\/li>\n<li><b>All3Media International<\/b>&nbsp;also made further headway into the Asian market. The UK-headquartered studio announced that their TV series, <i>Help<\/i> and <i>The Tourist<\/i> have been licensed to Chinese companies, while Australian contemporary political thriller series<i> Total Control<\/i> has been licensed by broadcasters and streamers across <span class=\"xn-location\">Asia<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Latin America<\/span>. <\/li>\n<li><b>Dori Media Group <\/b>also announced the sale of their hit telenovela, <i><span class=\"xn-location\">Argentina<\/span>, tierra de amor y venganza<\/i> or <i><span class=\"xn-location\">Argentina<\/span>, Land of Passion and Revenge<\/i> to Contents Seven Co. Ltd., one of <span class=\"xn-location\">Japan&#8217;s<\/span> major film and TV content distributors. Contents Seven has acquired 60 episodes of the series and will oversee its localisation in the territory, handling translations for the Japanese subtitles. The series is slated to premiere mid-2022 on J:COM&#8217;s LaLa TV.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other announcements made during the week came from <b>Amazon Prime Video<\/b>, who unveiled plans to expand its streaming service within <span class=\"xn-location\">Southeast Asia<\/span>. The company also announced plans to open a regional office in <span class=\"xn-location\">Singapore<\/span> and said that it would add <span class=\"xn-location\">Indonesia<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Thailand<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">the Philippines<\/span>, and <span class=\"xn-location\">Singapore<\/span> to its Asian production footprint. <\/p>\n<p><span class=\"xn-person\">Hye Jung Hwang<\/span>, Chief Content Officer of South Korean streaming giant <b>TVING<\/b>, also shared that the company will be investing <span class=\"xn-money\">USD 335 million<\/span> towards the creation and acquisition of fresh content, with 40 to 50 new originals coming out of TVING next year. <\/p>\n<p>ATF also saw a slew of companies on a buying spree, with companies such as <span class=\"xn-location\">Indonesia&#8217;s<\/span> <b>NET TV<\/b>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Vietnam&#8217;s<\/span> <b>Galaxy Play<\/b>, <span class=\"xn-location\">China&#8217;s<\/span> <b><span class=\"xn-money\">Tencent<\/span> Video<\/b>, Turkish Broadcaster <b>TRT World<\/b> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Los Angeles<\/span>-based <b>Synergetic Distribution<\/b> on the lookout for fresh content and new partnership opportunities.<\/p>\n<p><b>ATF Pitches: Winners Announced<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Continuing its tradition of giving breath to fresh ideas and undiscovered Asian talent, the winners of the ATF Animation, Formats and Chinese Pitches were announced after a series of pitches that took place virtually.
