{"id":8216,"date":"2022-04-13T22:06:00","date_gmt":"2022-04-13T22:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.prnasia.com\/story\/archive\/3724654_AE24654_0"},"modified":"2022-04-13T22:06:00","modified_gmt":"2022-04-13T22:06:00","slug":"cgtn-china-to-make-hainan-an-example-of-reform-opening-up-in-new-era","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/transmediavictoria.net.au\/?p=8216","title":{"rendered":"CGTN: China to make Hainan an example of reform, opening-up in new era"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en.prnasia.com\/prnasia.com-PC\/images\/logo-en-blue-in.png\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">BEIJING<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-chron\">April 14, 2022<\/span> \/PRNewswire\/ &#8212;&nbsp;China has vowed to build its southern island province of <span class=\"xn-location\">Hainan<\/span> into a free trade port with global influence and make it an example of the country&#8217;s reform and opening-up in the new era.<\/p>\n<div class=\"PRN_ImbeddedAssetReference\" id=\"DivAssetPlaceHolder2783\" align=\"center\" readability=\"7\">\n<p title=\"CGTN: China to make Hainan an example of reform, opening-up in new era\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1clik_hOOMU\" frameborder=\"0\">&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;nbsp;<\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">Hainan&#8217;s<\/span> unique role in <span class=\"xn-location\">China&#8217;s<\/span> reform and opening-up drive was put under the spotlight as President Xi Jinping inspected the island from Sunday to Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><b>Yangpu economic development zone<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Xi inspected the Yangpu economic development zone in the city of Danzhou on Tuesday and learned about the zone&#8217;s development and the building of the free trade port with Chinese characteristics.<\/p>\n<p>Describing Yangpu as a pilot and demonstration zone of the Hainan Free Trade Port, he called for bold innovations in building the zone and efforts to better serve the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).<\/p>\n<p>He visited an exhibition about <span class=\"xn-location\">Hainan&#8217;s<\/span> achievements in deepening reform and opening-up and building the free trade port on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Boasting a deep-water port and special location advantages, Yangpu has been playing an important role in <span class=\"xn-location\">Hainan&#8217;s<\/span> reform and opening-up since the establishment of a state-level development zone there in 1992.<\/p>\n<p>Located in the northwest of <span class=\"xn-location\">Hainan<\/span>, Yangpu is close to the ASEAN Free Trade Area, with straight-line distance of less than 500 nautical miles from more than 10 main port cities in the region.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Yangpu is also a meeting point of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor \u2013 a trade and logistics passage jointly built by <span class=\"xn-location\">Singapore<\/span> and provincial-level regions of western <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span> \u2013 and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, part of the BRI.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The container throughput of Yangpu Port reached 403,300 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in the first quarter of the year, up 61.84 percent from the same period last year.<\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"xn-location\">Hainan&#8217;s<\/span> strides in upgrading opening-up<\/b><\/p>\n<p>During his inspection tour in <span class=\"xn-location\">Hainan<\/span>, Xi also visited a seed laboratory and a research institute of the Ocean University of <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span> in the city of Sanya, and a section of a tropical rainforest national park and a village in the city of Wuzhishan.<\/p>\n<p>He attended a meeting with senior officials of the province at the end of the tour, calling for efforts to build the Hainan Free Trade Port into an elegant &#8220;business card&#8221; of <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">Hainan<\/span> should focus its efforts on the development of tourism, modern services, high-tech industries and the tropical agricultural industry, and accelerate the building of a modern industrial system, he said.<\/p>\n<p>He called for removing drawbacks in systems and mechanisms and deepening opening-up in broader fields.<\/p>\n<p>It was Xi&#8217;s first inspection tour to the province since <span class=\"xn-chron\">April 2018<\/span>, when he attended a gathering celebrating the 30th anniversary of the founding of <span class=\"xn-location\">Hainan Province<\/span> and the Hainan Special Economic Zone.
